What Are The Different Types Of Ads?

Text Ads

Text ads can be displayed on both the search network and display network of Google. These now contain up to 3 headlines (30 characters each), your website URL as well as 2 descriptions where you can use more characters (90 characters each) to give potential clients more detailed information about your product or services.

Despite the fact these ads can appear on both the search and display networks. We advise you target each network separately through specific campaigns as the two bidding systems vary and can result in wasted spend if put together.

When running text ads on the search network we also recommend paying attention to the keywords you choose. Grouping them together in relevant adgroups to ensure you are getting the best quality score you can. Otherwise (once again) it will result in wasted ad spend.

Image / Display Ads

Image Ads (Display Banners) are the banners you have no doubt seen whilst browsing online yourself. Giving you a great opportunity to catch potential clients eye with your company branding or the services you are trying to promote. Allowing you to show people static pictures and animations.

Simply put. The Google’s display network is massive!!! With more than 4 billion daily page views, 700 million monthly users, and reaching more than 80% of the online audience. This is a really effective way of putting your company in front of a huge number of people at different stages in the buying process, depending on the targeting you choose.

As well as standard display ads this is where (in my opinion) every company should be running remarketing ads. Reminding people who have already visited your site that you are there and giving you the best chance to gain their business instead of going to one of your competitors.

Shopping Ads

If you are an E-Commerce business. You NEED to be running Shopping ads! These allow you to advertise your products using the Google AdWords platform in a controlled and cost-effective way. Allowing you to highlight the product or service in the search results along with the product title price and a small description, meaning the traffic you are getting from these ads are already highly qualified.

These Ads can appear on Google Shopping for specific countries, Google search, Youtube and Search Partner-Websites. Giving your products the level of exposure that’s hard to beat. To see what a shopping ad looks like, simply go to Google search and look for the term ‘Laptops.’

Yes you will see some massive companies like Amazon listed there but that really doesn’t mean you won’t be able to compete and make consistent high returns from your marketing budget.

To run shopping Ads, you need to have an account in Google Merchant Centre. More on this to follow in a later piece.

Video Ads

When Videos are played on a video platform like Youtube or the other Google Partner websites for brand promotion, those are video Ads. So if the impact of a picture is so high, guess the impact of a video on the audience! To make the most of this ad format its really worth investing the time and money into creating quality videos that sell a story so you can take people along the buying process journey with high impact visuals.

Call Only Ads

If you are operating a business locally and your main goal is to generate incoming phone calls. These might be the ads for you. Similar to text Ads the only difference being they don’t give the option to visit your website. Instead just giving people the option to call you direct from their mobile phones.

Rich Media Ads

In case you want to use massive media files such as audio and video to increase the engagement of the user, you can go for Rich Media Ads. You can use a standard creative of size less than 200KB for smaller size files. But if your files exceed 200KB, you should go with Rich Media Ads.
